Fixing my headphones... again

I love listing to music. Most of the time I spend alone there is music playing. So when my sister asked if I wanted her old pair of over-ears it was a nobrainer. Only catch: one cup had snapped of...

So I did what every good tinkerer does. Tried gluing it back together and when it did not immediately worked, they were banned on the growing pile of half abandoned projects. For half a year that's were they lived.

I'd occasionally pick them up try to think of a solution for a few minutes, give up and put them back. Until one time I had an idea just stupid enough to work.

Up until this point I only had considered two options: Glue or making an entirely new part. Problem was glue is not strong enough and making a part from scratch was way to much work, never mind i didn't have any of the required skills.

So what I came up with was to use a small screw and file it until it fit. I spend a few hours filing, try to fit it in, more filing, retrying... and it worked :D Swivelling, folding. No problem.

The only thing left to do: Put them back together. There were a few minor hiccups. I had to drill a small hole to reroute the cable for example.

When I was finished I was amassed. I didn't break anything and they sounded so much better than the crappy 10€ in-ears I was using at the time.

And they lived happily ever after...

Wait a second... Why is there an 'again' in the title then? Well because they broke again. Only this time is was the other cup which snapped of.

jal start

After so online research it seems to be common for this model to fail at that point. To be fair they are probably about five years old and there is a new model which apparently has the issue fixed.

Anyway, I happy the have these headphone because they still sound amassing :D
